Canine Crossroads Foundation is the result of a vision that was God-given to Mindy Bradley, who is a pastor's wife. She had desired for many years to start an Service Dog organization. In 2003, she was diagnosed with stage 3 Breast Cancer and learned the value of how much a dog can help through her own dogs. Her greyhound became a balance dog until she was unable to stand and used a walker then eventually a wheelchair.

By this time, she got a taste of what life as being disabled might be. Through this experience, she was determined to provide an organization to meet the needs of a growing community in need of Service Dogs and to specialize in dogs that were allergy friendly. In March of 2005, Canine Crossroads was born.

Canine Crossroads Foundation is a non-profit 501 (3) (c) organization committed to provide trained Service Dogs for people with disabilities to improve their independence. It wants those with disabilities to not concentrate on their disabilities, rather, by using a trained Service Dog, to focus their time and energies on living a normal and independent life

Canine Crossroads provides Service Dogs at no cost, relying on volunteers, puppy raisers, charitable donations to pay all travel and housing expenses for the handler's on-site training and the training of the service dogs.

We are concentrating on providing dogs with low to non shedding coats for those handlers with allergies. While many people in need of a Service Dog do not have allergies, those around them may. Thus we are forging the way to provide Service Dogs of quality and low shedding.

The trained Service Dog assists their partner to ease the difficulty in their daily living tasks, while providing companionship and unconditional love. The dogs will be trained to do a variety of tasks. The typical tasks include turning on and off lights, opening and closing doors, retrieving objects, providing balance when needed, pulling wheelchairs if needed and providing companionship so the disabled do not feel alone. We want those with disabilities to not concentrate on their disabilities, rather we want them by using a trained Service Dog to put their time and energies on living a normal and independent life.

Since disabilities come in many forms, we will provide Seizure Response Dogs, Balance Assistant Dogs, and Companion Dogs for the Elderly, Facility Companion Dogs and Therapy Dogs.

Rebecca is Jordan's puppy raiser in college. The puppy was sent to us as a very well bred American Labradoodle and has been such a love in our lives. He lives on the Texas A&M University campus and is being raised through the AGS organization for us at Canine Crossroads.

We love to have volunteers in our organization. We are always in need of puppy raisers and people to help sponsor one of our puppies. For those who can and are interested, we have times for mail outs and need lots of help in that area. :-) Spreading the word, helping to find funding if anyone is able to write grants is also something we are needing. We are hoping to begin building a kennel and training area and will be having a work day sometime in the near future.
